Olive grove
restoration

The climate and the peculiarities of this terrain are more prone to the generation of fires, which as we all know have dramatic consequences for the fauna and flora. In the Abrantes region alone there are 200,000 hectares of abandoned olive groves, which is equivalent to 2,800 football pitches.

From Apadrinhaunoliveira.org we have the mission to recover abandoned olive trees, to keep alive what has always been alive.

How do you recover an olive tree?

The great enemy of these centuries-old survivors, apart from pests and droughts, is abandonment, with the consequent appearance of branches that grow from the base of the trunk, stealing the resources that the tree should be using for itself and its fruit, the olive. Stop or avoid.

Pruning to eliminate dry branches

Elimination of chitos

Work on the soil

Spontaneous covering of the soil

Soil fertilisation

Foliar fertilisation with nettle slurry

Ecological pest treatment

Irrigation

Why sponsor an olive tree

The olive grove represents who we are and how we relate to our environment. That is why we now need godfathers and godmothers who want to maintain the legacy of our territory, to reconnect with our identity, heritage and wealth so closely linked to the olive grove. Together, we will recover the abandoned olive grove and generate a sustainable and circular economy, which will bring population and opportunities to the area.
