Endesa and apadrinhaumaoliveira

There are many ways to reach a project, to land it and to finish conceptualizing it, and we, together with Endesa, have managed to work hand in hand to begin our work, which is more than necessary in this territory.

And, to tell the truth, we are very happy.

Endesa has trusted the Apadrinaunolivo.org team to drive a change towards a sustainable and circular economy in the Abrantes region that will help the transition of the region after the closure of the Pego thermal power plant.

This is how the seeds of the “Apadrinha uma Oliveira” project in Abrantes were sown.

Our objective together with Endesa is clear and ambitious: to recover 10,000 olive trees from the 200,000 hectares, equivalent to 2,800 soccer fields, which have been in total abandonment for decades.

Through Godfathers, Godmothers and Companies that help us to finance the activity with an annual subscription, as we have already done in Spain in these 9 years.

We will also promote the olive growing activity in the town of Mouriscas, where we can find the oldest olive tree in the Iberian Peninsula, the Mouchao, which is 3,350 years old. To this end, we will work with local olive mills to launch a responsible oil brand, the sale of which will finance the recovery of the olive grove.

Likewise, the impact on the population will be tangible, because we estimate that we will generate 17 permanent and 10 temporary contracts by 2030, many of them former workers of the power plant.

We are very eager and above all very inspired to work with the objective that we can lead a change based on a fair, ecological, digital and inclusive transition, to give more tools to the rural environment.
